If you're looking for a picnic beach, and don't mind the long drive, Zuma is a great choice. For starters, it's big, so there is plenty of room to run around. It's also well equipped with parking, volleyball courts, swing sets and a snack bar. A south swell makes for challenging surfing in the summer. The water tends to be colder than at the beaches further south, but it's also cleaner. Zuma has a scenic bike path, which runs northbound about 2.5 miles. Be aware that the wind sometimes howls at this beach, so the conditions aren't always ideal for sunbathing. Do not touch, feed, or disturb any marine life on the beach. Animals on the beach are wild and may bite. If you see an injured animal on the beach, ask a lifeguard to call animal rescue. Call 911 for any emergencies No Alcohol on the beach No pets on the beach No fires except at the Dockweiler Beach or Cabrillo Beach fire rings Hours of Operation for all beaches: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
